Why is it every damn time that I sign onto Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of duty, Left 4 Dead, and all the other multiplayer games that I have to listen to a bunch of assholes treat girl gamers like sh*t???!!! I head all kinds of insults, such as "B*tch!!! go back in the kitchen and make me some dinner", "A Girl??!! I bet your fat", "Don't you have dishes to clean?", the list goes on and on. The last time something like this happened to women was back in the early 1900's when women were fighting for equal rights. Now I am not a feminist but I do believe in equal rights in all things, I believe that everyone should be treated equally regardless of their Race, Gender, Political View, Religious Affiliation, Lifestyle Choice, or Sexual Orientation. so to all you gamer guys out there, SHOW SOME GOD D*MN RESPECT!!!!!

Of course, Dryad goes to the same internet cafe and can easily beat some sense into them if she hears them acting like that. Maybe that's why I never hear any anti-girl talk around there.
Best defense? Stronger vocabulary, or reverse psychology, imply their hatred is their secret wanting of being whoever whatever they're insulting. I've actually had encouraging success with those tactics, most times without cursing at all.
My daughters game VIOLENTLY and target their antagonists first.
Guys who do this are generally frustrated, young, and have yet to learn the life-saving admonition that "Hell hath no fury...."
Those guys will eventually learn that female gamers (FragDolls as an example) have unmatched patience and more innate group cunning than men. They may not face you head-on, but you'll feel the sting at some point, guaranteed.
A lot of guys seem to need to show off, & become overly competitive with each other around me, trying to prove they are the alpha. I find that very annoying in team situations.There like several people that I have fun playing with, but I can't mix them.
Also there's very few of them that can suck it up & follow me & do what I tell them. There's been more than 1 occasions that we have failed elite missions after spending a couple of hours working our way to the boss, because they won't listen to me, even though I'm the only 1 in the group that's done it before.
Of course there are some of them that I know there ego won't allow them to follow, so when I play w them I make sure I have confidence that they are up to the task, and then just let them lead.
I'm sure that it has a lot to do with the number of adolescents involved in gaming.
There's a reason I don't like playing competitive MP, people like this.

I'm French and sometimes find myself on the receiving end of the most ridiculous prejudice. I usually play along, something like "wait, I was just eating some fromage in my baguette, but now I'm ready to play". Or I'll face them head on with something like "Don't be cocky, you won because you played better than me, not because you're American". Or just some plain ol' lecturing.
It is my experience that when confronted to meaning of their words, most people will stand corrected. But what applies in my case doesn't have to be true in your case, because those are 2 different kinds and degrees of prejudice.
It has happened to me dozens of times on XBL, so by now I'm more amused than angry when it happens.
And I can always quit and hope that the next people I play with have an IQ greater than a bulldog.
I wish to pint out that most people I chat with online during play are act polite or lively people, and are nice to play with. These idiots are anomalies.

Off topic, but might raise your spirits a little bit, the best Left 4 Dead player among my XBL regular friends is a French girl (L4D is the MP game I play the most).

Here's a question: Do you tell those people who say that to shut the fuck up? Or do you silently do nothing? I wanna hear it.
One other thing, all the games you mention are generally shooters. I think thats a big contributor to the issue here.
A different perspective: The guys talk shit at the other guys they are fragging. Then they frag a girl. Do they: A, not say anything so they don't hurt her feelings? B, talk shit and treat her like the other guys they obviously talk shit about. Which is equal? Neither? Both? Are they supposed to be more considerate? What is sexist or biased in this case? Can you burp and fart in a woman's presence? Or are you the only one offended? Do they even consider what they are saying to be serious? What about the girl? Who's disturbed more, you or her?
They treat us as a liar boy or they offend us as a girl...why?
That's the only reason people insult others, to make others feel bad, so they feel less bad about their own crappy lives.
I usually pity people like that.
On the other hand, I'm always finding people in any game who assume that any girl playing video games naturally must be looking for cyber sex.
Not rich people, they may look happy but inside they are hurting.

If this doesn't help always go into a game with party chat (which is what I do). Their just angry that they got their arse kicked so they look for anything to make fun of.
Generally, people are douches on the internet. Anonymity can be both good and bad, really.
Although another thing that annoys me is girl gamers who want people to do as they say because THEY ARE GIRLS WINK WINK WINK and act like complete idiots.
On a serious note though, most girl gamers actually play way more intense then some of the guy gamers i know, they actually can focus more on strategy and outwitting then brute force. When i played professionally I would always try to recruit at least one girl gamer for my squad in Counterstrike, a lot of times it can prove to be quite advantageous.
What doesn't make sense to me are the guys that berate woman over xbox live, it's retarded. "get in the kitchen and make me asandwhich" As it might be funny if the girl is a firend of yours and doesn't get mad but it just proves that you suck at games and need to up your skills.
Saying this to a random girl on the internet however I find kinda cowardly.
The Internet is largely populated by assholes with no communication skills, lots of insecurity, and a strong herd mentality. They'll happily replicate whatever meme of the month is popular - such as telling females to go make them a sandwich. They'll insult anyone and everyone who is even slightly different - women, homosexuals, foreigners, whatever. And they'll spout profanity almost nonstop.
Don't take it personally.
Most of these folks are still living at home... Maybe they've never had a meaningful relationship... Maybe they're still working at McDonalds for minimum wage... The point is that they're still sheltered little brats with absolutely no perspective and little to truly be proud of. Anything out of the ordinary is a frightening attack on their safe little corner of the world.
I myself don't really care I will play against a girl and with a girl like any other gamer. At times I do have to stick up for a lot of the girl gamers I play with since people pick on them all the time. That makes it harder to play with females at times because they don't like getting bitched at all the time.

With tat being said kicking a girl from a party just because she is a girl is retarded. At least play with them to find out if they can hack it. If not then give them the boot but that goes for even the dudes i have played with.
Whats even better tho imo isa female who loves the rush of a challenge, especially in a PvP setting. Give me a good looking female who screams commands over ventrilo or hell in my living room because we lan centered up my delicious front area. Magic Gentleman pure freakin magic.

I have never played a MMO before, but I'm sure that if I came across a woman that could Pwn with the best of them, I would raise my drinking horn to her. Bravo!!!!
I've had a couple instances in other places where a girl got treated like that, but it was mainly because she was talking smack and pwning everyone. Other than that its the usual boob jokes or the guy trying to talk "sexy"/get with her.
I, however, have 100% confidence that these guys get their @#$% kicked by my lovely mage (in wow, she's not a mage in real life, not the slightest... I think.) and then sent the remains to their parents in guise of warning.
Nonetheless, I've been in a guild which was ran by 2 girls. Everything went well until emotions came into play.. Then again, that could happen to anyone.

But in all seriousness, the whole idea of girl gamers is retarded. There are gamers. Some of them happen to be girls. Likewise, there are girls. Some of them happen to be gamers.
Falling back on the same comparison I always use, a girl who clamors for attention by declaring herself a 'girl gamer' because she plays a few popular games is the same thing as a guy following girls around trying to get attention by saying he's a chef because he knows how to microwave some instant ramen.
Truly awesome gamer girls don't obsess over being a gamer any more than the average male gamer does. If being a gamer girl is your entire identity, you're just as bad as those otaku nuts that have anime figurines lining every wall in their room and sleep with a body pillow that has an ecchi drawing of a girl from a popular shonen pasted on it.
lol I've had that experience a couple times on SOCOM except I couldn't even squeeze an "ello" into the conversation between a girl I knew and the 7-12 guys fawning over her even though nobody knew what she looked like.
Jesus if you want to meet a girl that plays videogames play something that alot of girls play like 'Battlefield' or 'Hello Kitty Online'. Or better yet just go outside.

I've played female characters in MMOs (E&B specifically) before and was shocked at the idiots trying to pick up on CARTOONS. My God, how pathetic are their lives?

I feel bad for any females trying to get into the gaming world. My girlfriend for example lead a guild on WoW for several years, has played Halo and CoD, and enjoys just about any game out there. But, because she has the gift of a vagina, she has to put up with the harassment and belittlement of fellow, male, gamers.
Is it fair? Not at all. The times are changing and people need to accept that women are becoming a major participant in games. In fact, I bet the next time you're on CoD, Halo, etc. and you get your ass pwned by the person with no mic, it's really a chick you THINK is a guy. And to that, I feel it's sad that in order to gain respect and excel, women have to do everything possible to seem like "one of the guys" in video games and hide their identity. It's horseshit.
She now plays muted without a mic, but at least she still plays. It's sad though, but anytime you add anonymity, it spawns disrespect and a-hole syndrome.
